Baby Girl is getting her first 2 teeth (or maybe 3 or 4–those little boogers are hard to see). She is sad. I am sad.

I think I will let her stay up late, eat Rocky Road ice cream for dinner, and watch cartoons in my bed.

Just kidding. She IS staying up late, but I don’t appear to be in charge of it.

Good sleepers gone bad February 17, 2007

AKA “The Great Nap Strike of ‘07″

A grand apology to those of you who don’t have babies and couldn’t care less about mine…unless you want to hear about work (and trust me, you don’t), this is it for news in my life!

Baby Girl has learned to roll from her back to tummy, but not the other way. Now to appreciate this, you should know that 1) BG hates to be on her tummy, and 2) If your infant is sleeping well, this will end it in a heartbeat. Now every naptime and night consists of her rolling, getting stuck, and screaming for me to come roll her back. Then, she starts the process again. Though she hates to be on her tummy (at least when awake), she delights in rolling. It is her joy, her purpose in life, her nirvana. However, she is remarkably displeased with the end result of rolling. So, I decide to let her wander around her crib for a while (she also likes to stay stationary and turn her legs around like a clock), only going in about every two minutes to make sure she isn’t trying to kill herself by smashing her face into the mattress or leaping out of the crib or anything. If you’ve read any child-development books lately, you know that letting your child sleep on his/her stomach is of the devil, and your child will die. Being the attentive mother that I am, this is among my things to avoid. Here’s what I find:

Yep–out cold, ON her tummy, looking like someone put her in the stocks. I personally don’t care as long as she sleeps (THE BOOKS say that once they start rolling themselves onto their tummies, they are okay to sleep that way–how on earth could you stop them anyway?), but it does make me think we could have bought a much smaller crib.

Wonders of the internet… February 5, 2007

What in the world did we do before we had the internet at our fingertips ALL the time? In the course of one day, I have (so far):

-bought a new baby carrier
-learned how to use the dang thing by way of a very helpful video
-given away five bags of great but not-needed-by-me stuff (I love Freecycle!)
-spelled the word “potpourri” correctly in an email
-learned how to remove drywall anchors from my wall
-rescheduled a meeting for work that was cancelled due to snow
-learned how my friend Charlye is doing in Africa
-started looking at tips to sell our house (a much dreaded and feared task)
-and made a list of all the things I’ll need (not much, it turns out) to make BG’s baby food in a few months.

All this was accomplished by me today, and I was not even required to put on real pants. For the record, I did wear pants–just sweatpants. You know you were wondering…  I will never be able to not have high-speed internet at home again. I have struggled with feeling like I’m getting things done since I started only working 2 days/week, but today I feel good. This will quickly disappear tomorrow when I return to work and feel that wrath  that is my first day back after two snow days. Oh, it will be horrible (shudder). Did you know that paperwork can actually be angry? It can. I promise you that what’s piled on my desk and inbox since Wednesday will be angry and impatient.
