A funny April 23, 2007
Home Sweet Home, eventually April 16, 2007
We are in the new house. Yippee! We are now embarking on a semi-daily game of “Honey? Where’s that thing? Did you pack/unpack ______?” The most annoying thing I can’t find–the shower rod for our bathroom. The one for the guest bathroom I (of course) found in the first 10 seconds after we moved. I also can’t find a bunch of toys that I packed for Baby Girl because she wasn’t interested yet. Thank goodness she likes to play with the same 3 toys, because that’s about all she has for now. The next annoying thing to do is restock our food staples. To my shame, I couldn’t even fix PB&J for my friends’ kiddos yesterday. I do, however, have apple butter, frozen spinach, and ice cream sandwiches.
We also starred in an episode of “What Not to do in Real Estate” or “How to own TWO Houses You Can’t Afford.” Thankfully, this was short-lived. The buyer for our condo had his mortgage fall through, so our simultaneous buying/selling closing date was a dud. We ended up buying our new house while still owning the old one–eeek! The bonus was that we had about 12 hours to scrape together several thousand dollars for the closing costs on the new house. I don’t recommend you try this, especially while living with your in-laws and being crazy from living out of suitcase with a baby. The short version–his mortgage eventually came through, but we had to put the house back on the market, show it more, and wait (and wait, and wait) while hoping that would happen.
We also learned that ordering new furniture (something that doesn’t really come into play with the hand-me-down furniture we know and love) is not like buying a fridge from Best Buy. Delivery in a few days? Ha. Try 4-6 weeks. I am not patient.
