Crayons in my coffee

These days… September 30, 2007

In random order:

Work: kicking my behind, even though I’m only doing it part-time. I love my kiddos, but I’m remembering why I prefer high schoolers. These elementary school parents are exhausting! Note to self: Don’t be THAT MOM later on. Also, elementary school teachers are some of the most rigid people on the planet. They are almost as rigid as school psychologists. On the good work news front, I’m going to the National Association of School Psychologists convention this year (hopefully at least partly on the company dime). I swear it’s 85% more fun than it sounds. Did I mention that it’s in New Orleans? Did I mention that it’s during Mardi Gras? Even nerds need their fun.

Baby Girl: keeping us on our toes. She’s been to Mother’s Day Out for a few weeks and is on her 3rd sickness (NONE prior to MDO). Today, she spiked a 103.2 degree fever at church and had us running to the weekend clinic (thank goodness it was open, or it was straight to the ER, $2500 deductible and all). Turns out she has an ear infection, so at least there is a reason/diagnosis. She is on medicine and is already doing much better. I feel so rotten for letting her be in misery most of the weekend, thinking she just had a cold/virus. I have never seen a more pitiful child. In reality, I think we weren’t too far off from a fever-induced seizure. Paranoia rules supreme, I suppose. I just keep chanting softly to myself: She’s building up her immune system, she’s building up her immune system, she’s building up her immune system…Kindergarten will be a breeze, kindergarten will be a breeze…
*Also, first real word: “NO!” It was spoken in the short, clipped tone normally associated with Nazi Germany. Prediction for next word: “TOUCHDOWN!” or possibly “Plaxico” (as in Burress).

Andrew: He was recently voted “Most Changed” at his 10-year high school reunion. Proud owner of a certificate, a t-shirt, and a very red (and apparently markedly changed) face.

Crap. I thought I had more categories. To be continued when I remember what I was wanting to write about…

Oh, and–Andrew is out of town this Friday, and it’s Parent’s Night Out (AKA free babysitting by our church). Can’t you hear the angels singing? However, I have no idea what to do with myself on a Friday night anymore.
Give me fun ideas. I have already ruled out cleaning of any kind, napping (though that sounds pretty good, actually), and watching a movie (see previous thought on napping).
