(School is out! Ahhhhhh… Now I can breathe and do about a jillion loads of laundry. Fun times).
After much talk and not much action, Andrew and I finally set up the official saving-for-adoption savings account. So from now on, that’s where all the extra pennies (and hopefully larger amounts) go. We have been to an informational session at a local adoption agency (last October, to show just how long we’ve been talking and not actioning), but not actually sure if that’s the one just yet. I have been obsessively reading just about anything I can find, and I can’t wait to get started on this (probably very) long process. Though we were intially sure we would go with international adoption, I think (right, Andrew?) that we have decided to try domestic first. The wait is very uncertain as far as length of time, and the notice given can be very brief. However, I think this is the way to go for us right now. Of course, we first have to save up a good chunk of change to avoid doing this in debt (I know many do it with a loan, but we’re just not wanting to go that route).
In case you’re not one the people who heard us talk about this:
-Yes, we can still get pregnant and intend to. In a perfect world, we would intermingle the adoptions and births. Adoption has just always been part of the plan. Baby Girl was a surprise (don’t you tell her when she’s older), so I imagine there may be more in store.
-No, we don’t know how many we’ll have.
Probably enough to make us crazy. We reserve the right to stop with the one who annoys us the most.
-Yes, you may just give us whatever money you have laying around unused (just kidding, sort of).
-Yes, I saw the adoption scam show on Dr. Phil. I know, I know.
More on this later. I know this sounds flip, but there has been a lot of thought put into this by both of us. I’m very excited! I’m sure it will be an ongoing story, though it will be pretty silent and boring until we have the savings built up. If you’re out there on my friends list and have an adoption experience or story that I’m not remembering at this moment, I’d love to hear it.
